Of all my memories, the Racial Riots was the one I remembered the most.
I used to live near Geylang and my father used to run a grocery store. I remember that there was a day when everyone just came in and grabbed everything from the shelves till they were empty. It was really scary witnessing that.
I also recall following my dad to the bakery to buy loaves and loaves of bread as food was really scarce then. My grandmother, who was about 70 years old at that time, still had to help out.
It was a scary period then but I remember that I still went out during curfews, being a kid, to play badminton.
